Great write up in The Scotsman for @puppetanimascot #manipulate2020 - thanks for including us in the interviews! Our shows JOURNEY (showing at 2.00 & 3.00) & LAMP (showing at 4.15 & 5.15) are part of Rising Voices at the festival on Feb 1st. The line-up has us in great company on a day teeming with short form shows from local acts. Come along to @summerhallery & make a day of it! We're looking forward to being reunited with our guest star shows from 2019's @edfringe & @fmtmcharleville ... @fionaoliverlarkin with Twa Pirate Quines, @maryfngrieve with Shadowbird, @nudge_puppets with Finger Fatale & caravan co-founder @temporarycommons is bringing #templeofthetattie along too!
With support from Puppet Animation Scotland's Creative Fund, we have made our first show for audiences outside of the caravan & are getting ready to share it with audiences at a puppet festival in Charleville-Mezieres.
The big side door opens up & the caravan becomes a stage.
We've dreamt about making a show like this since 2016 when we worked on the refit...
Jess has been synthing up a soundtrack for it.
Some props underway.
More images and info soon...
Summerhall - our home from home for the month of August at Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Such a welcoming & supportive vibe, we loved being here! Most amusing quote from our caravan audience was for LAMP "Classic Summerhall S**T - in a good way!"
Thanks also to Puppet Animation Festival for being part of our run from audience feedback admin, storage space for our show rotation and general all round on site support and cheer team.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ From Broadway World "Effectively, it is the theatrical equivalent of Pixar short: a brief meditation on a facet of life presented in a near-universally accessible fashion, with elements of puppetry and a vocal score with no spoken words." "The intimate, quirky and experimental feel is a refreshing antidote to the increasingly mainstream nature of so many of the productions presented in Edinburgh during August. Swallow the Sea Caravan Theatre offer a real Fringe experience - amusing, slightly bizarre and definitely memorable"
"Lamp is an abstract absurdist object piece about two characters who interact with sounds and fascinating gestures. Two performers bring these objects to life in a most unusual way with personalities and human traits. The piece is lively, entertaining and performed with finesse" "Up North is completely different and dream-like with melodic song, stillness and beautiful hand crafted scenery and shadow puppetry. The story is about the north – the arctic – and transports us in its simplicity and care to detail. During Up North it seemed like there were several puppeteer storytellers performing the show but there was only one." http://fringereview.co.uk/review/edinburgh-fringe/2019/swallow-the-sea-caravan-theatre/
Working in partnership with Swallow the Sea Caravan Theatre, Puppet Animation Scotland invites Scottish-based puppeteers to pitch their imaginative and dynamic creative ideas to us.
We are looking for three separate short – solo and/or duo pieces, each 12-15 minutes long – to run in repertory with three of the Swallow the Sea’s shows in the company’s caravan theatre for the length of the Festival Mondial Des Théâtres De Marionnettes 2019. The selected pieces will also form part of Swallow the Sea’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019 run at Summerhall.
These pieces need to use puppetry to a high proficiency, contain little or no text and be straightforward to set-up and take-down within the Swallow the Sea caravan space.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday 28 January 2019, 5.00pm to apply. Upon registering your interest, you will receive information about the caravan’s internal dimensions. You will be offered a 15 minutes time slot at a pitch event on Thursday 14 February at Summerhall in Edinburgh, where you will discuss your proposal with Puppet Animation Scotland staff and the artists of the Swallow the Sea Caravan Theatre. Successful applicants will be informed by Monday 18 February.
Selected puppeteers / duos will be expected to present their work in the Swallow the Sea Caravan Theatre during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019 at Summerhall, prior to participating in the Festival Mondial Des Théâtres De Marionnettes.
Each of the three selected puppeteers/duos will receive a Puppet Animation Scotland Creative Fund award to develop their piece. Along with a fee, travel, accommodation and per diems while in France will be provided, as well as a generous free ticket allocation for festival performances.
