Working in partnership with Swallow the Sea Caravan Theatre, Puppet Animation Scotland invites Scottish-based puppeteers to pitch their imaginative and dynamic creative ideas to us.
We are looking for three separate short – solo and/or duo pieces, each 12-15 minutes long – to run in repertory with three of the Swallow the Sea’s shows in the company’s caravan theatre for the length of the Festival Mondial Des Théâtres De Marionnettes 2019. The selected pieces will also form part of Swallow the Sea’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019 run at Summerhall.
These pieces need to use puppetry to a high proficiency, contain little or no text and be straightforward to set-up and take-down within the Swallow the Sea caravan space.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday 28 January 2019, 5.00pm to apply. Upon registering your interest, you will receive information about the caravan’s internal dimensions. You will be offered a 15 minutes time slot at a pitch event on Thursday 14 February at Summerhall in Edinburgh, where you will discuss your proposal with Puppet Animation Scotland staff and the artists of the Swallow the Sea Caravan Theatre. Successful applicants will be informed by Monday 18 February.
Selected puppeteers / duos will be expected to present their work in the Swallow the Sea Caravan Theatre during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019 at Summerhall, prior to participating in the Festival Mondial Des Théâtres De Marionnettes.
Each of the three selected puppeteers/duos will receive a Puppet Animation Scotland Creative Fund award to develop their piece. Along with a fee, travel, accommodation and per diems while in France will be provided, as well as a generous free ticket allocation for festival performances.

Thanks Knockengorroch World Ceilidh for hosting us again this year! We met wonderful people in our audiences at the screening of Chinterviews (a surreal short filmed in the caravan theatre at last year's World Ceilidh, watch the film here ) and the performances of Up North over four brilliant days of sunshine.
Emma was Knockengorroch's Featured Artist this year, she made various illustrated images for the festival and her visual art was on sale in the knock shop - launching a new poetry pamphlet to accompany her Swallow The Sea show "Up North". Titled "Steak and Onions and Stories of Svalbard" it's the last poem in the show and includes images from the piece. The pamphlets will also be on sale at future shows for £5 each.
FIVE DAYS OF TLC
Post-Winter TLC, we gave the caravan an overhaul on all its seals, making sure it's all set for the upcoming season of shows in Scotland.
Here we are tired and happy, happy and tired after 8 late nights at Edinburgh Fringe, estimated 350 folk through our door, that's a fair few shows when you seat up to 6 at a time, THANK YOU EVERYONE who shared in the feasting of folk art...what a treat to share "Up North" and "Home Sweet Home" with you in our tiny mobile theatre!
